WE ARE EXTINCTION REBELLION BIRMINGHAM

This is an emergency. Join the international rebellion to save the planet for our children.

Extinction Rebellion, XR for short, is an international movement run by volunteers. We’re trying to prevent the worst of the ongoing climate and ecological crises. We need emergency action from our governments to safeguard our future. Our demands are:

1. Tell the truth
Government must tell the truth by declaring a climate and ecological emergency, working with other institutions to communicate the urgency for change.

2. Act Now
Government must act now to halt biodiversity loss and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2025.

3. Beyond Politics
Government must create and be led by the decisions of a Citizens’ Assembly on climate and ecological justice.

You can read more about the demands, and about what a citizen’s assembly is, here.

To put pressure on government to take these actions, we use non-violent disruption and civil disobedience. Read more about this strategy, the organisation of XR and our principles and values here.

XR Birmingham

We’re Birmingham’s local Extinction Rebellion group. We are independent of national XR, but we all adhere to XR’s principles and values. We have a flat structure, and our members take all tasks up voluntarily.  So you can get involved as much or as little as you like.

We organise actions in and around Birmingham, and join in larger national actions such as the Rebellions in London.  There are talks and training for new members to help you get involved.  Well-being is important and we work to create an environment in which we can all share our joy and passion as well as our grief. We are always looking for new people to join.  Whatever your level of interest and skill, such as media or finance, or just making a noise,  you’ll be very welcome!

Our general meetings are online (Zoom) every Thursday evening at 7pm. Please email us for details.
