WE ARE EXTINCTION REBELLION BIRMINGHAM

This is an emergency. Join the international rebellion to save the planet for future generations.

Extinction Rebellion (XR) is an international movement made up of people from all walks of life. We’re trying to prevent the worst of the ongoing climate and ecological crises. We need emergency action from our governments to safeguard our future. Our demands are:

1. Tell the truth
All institutions must communicate the danger we are in. We must be clear about the extreme cascading risks humanity now faces, the injustice this represents, its historic roots, and the urgent need for rapid political, social and economic change.

2. Act Now
Every part of society must act now to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2025 and begin protecting and repairing nature immediately. The whole of society must move into a new precautionary paradigm, where life is sacred and all are in service to ensuring its future.

3. Be the Change
We demand a culture of participation, fairness and transparency. The Government must create and be led by a Citizens’ Assembly on Climate and Ecological Justice. Only the common sense of ordinary people will help us navigate the challenging decisions ahead.

You can read more about the demands, and about what a Citizen’s Assembly is, here.

To put pressure on government to take these actions, we use non-violent disruption and civil disobedience. Read more about this strategy, the organisation of XR and our principles and values here.

XR Birmingham is an Extinction Rebellion ‘local group’. We are autonomous, but we all adhere to XR’s principles and values. We have a flat structure, and our members take all tasks up voluntarily, so you can get involved as much or as little as you like.

We organise actions in and around Birmingham, and join in larger national actions such as the Rebellions in London.  There are talks and trainings for new members to help you get involved.  Wellbeing is important and we work to create an environment in which we can all share our joy and passion as well as our grief. We are always looking for new people to join.  Whatever your level of interest and skill, you’ll be very welcome. Visit our Blog to see what we’ve been doing recently!

Our general meetings are every Thursday evening at 7pm in the City Centre. Please email us for details – you can join in person or on Zoom.
