WE ARE EXTINCTION REBELLION BIRMINGHAM

This is an emergency. Join the international rebellion to save the planet for our children.

Extinction Rebellion, or XR for short, is an international organisation run by volunteers, who try to prevent the worst from the ongoing climate and ecological crises. We need emergency action from our governments to safeguard our future, and so our demands are as follows:

1. Tell the truth
Government must tell the truth by declaring a climate and ecological emergency, working with other institutions to communicate the urgency for change.

2. Act Now
Government must act now to halt biodiversity loss and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2025.

3. Beyond Politics
Government must create and be led by the decisions of a Citizens’ Assembly on climate and ecological justice.

You can read more about the demands, and about what a citizen’s assembly is, here.

To put pressure on our governments to take these actions, we use non-violent disruption and civil disobedience. Read more about this strategy, the organisation of XR and our principles and values here.

XR Birmingham

We are the local group of Extinction Rebellion based in Birmingham. Our organisation is independent from national XR in the UK, but we all adhere to the principles and values of XR. We have a flat hierarchy, and all tasks are taken up voluntarily by our members. This means you can get involved as much or as little as you like.

We organise actions in and around Birmingham, and join in on larger national actions such as the upcoming Autumn Rebellion in London. We give outreach talks and host training for new members to get involved. Our well-being and regenerative culture group looks out for everyone involved and works on creating an environment in which passion as well as grief can be shared. We are always looking for new people to join these activities, as well as to support our media or finance team, or simply to help keep our organisation running.

Our next General Meeting details will be posted here soon.
